November 2020
CHALLENGES
- As a newer collaborative effort, showcasing programs from four universities, it lacked a strong, independent, established brand
- Missouri Online’s brand promise did not support the strength of its robust offerings
- Need to easily scale programs and offerings
“They helped us every step of the way.”
“A project that seemed nearly impossible at the beginning was broken down into manageable parts – and they helped us every step of the way.”
Kayla Henderson, Content Strategist @ Missouri Online
DISCOVERY
- Despite online-only experience, students still desperately wanted a sense of community
- Connection to the four University of Missouri System (UM System) universities was important — but so was distinguishing themselves as a brand
- Users were most frequently finding UM System online programs via organic search — but a need existed to also introduce them to other programs
SOLUTIONS
- Each program designed and written as though it were a home page
- Individual programs — not Missouri Online itself — become the heroes of the story
- “Online shopping experience” — with the courses as the products — encourages users to find clear alternatives if they want to
- Design strategy included new logo to elevate brand
- Components of universities’ brand colors incorporated into Missouri Online’s color scheme & brand guidelines
- Comprehensive program finder leads with important statistics and strong copywriting and promotes the strength of course offerings
- Provides framework to scale offerings without disrupting design and user experience
- Student/alumni/faculty stories throughout the site, including on program pages
- Adds a sense of community for prospective students
“The iFactory team was extremely valuable during our website content inventory/planning/outlining process. They helped us simplify our existing content to make it easier to find and understand. We looked forward to meeting with them regularly; we felt like a part of their team and hope they felt like a part of ours.”
